Sangha Holiday
Dates coming soon
Parc Naturel du Haut Languedoc
*For the 20th anniversary of the Sangha Holiday, we have
arranged the dates so that the first group will meet the second group, so we’ll be able to
so that we can celebrate this occasion with the sangha in style! More info coming soon!
The Sangha Holiday was born from the desire to spend holidays amongst meditators. It is a wonderful opportunity for exploring the dharma together in a very free context. Outside of respecting the silent mornings and attending to the sharing groups, nothing is expected. As a group we decide meditation times, kitchen organisation, optional workshops, etc. The various tasks necessary to the smooth running of these holidays get spontaneously shared between participants. Discussions on dharma themes happen spontaneously.
It takes place in the beautiful Parc Naturel du Haut Languedoc, on a nice sandy area next to a beautiful river, and surrounded by mountains. It’s a favorite place of many dharma friends! The food is great, mainly local and organic, and is fully vegetarian.
Note: The Sangha Holiday is a participative event, not an organised retreat. You have to be aware that you will be expected to help with cooking and other tasks needed to run the event.
Prices
The price of the Sangha Holiday had not changed for over 10 years. During this time, a lot of work has been done on the grounds (showers, toilets, water system, etc.) and the rent has increased. As the price of food has also risen significantly, we have decided to increase the price to:
Adults : 21€/day(189€/période)
From 9 to 16 years old; 13€/day (117€/période)
From 3 to 8 years old: 10€/pay (90€ for 1 period)
And another 10€ per person (exept children) for the yearly membership fee.
And a donation for the organising :
As usual, the organisational work will be remunerated on a donation basis. Your participation in this is precious, it allows us to go on dedicating ourselves to the organising of such events. However, if your budget doesn’t allow you to bring us this support, don’t hesitate to come. Your presence is what counts for us ! donation However, if your budget is too tight to be able to offer this support, please do not hesitate to come anyway, as it is your presence that matters most to us!
Booking
There have been changes here too! For several years now, it has been difficult for us to maintain registrations without a deposit. We are seeing more and more last-minute cancellations, changes in dates, and hesitations, which makes managing this type of event difficult. We have therefore decided to request a non-refundable deposit upon registration (€89/adult and €50/child per period). You can pay the balance on site.
To find out if there are any places left and to register, send a request to sanghaholiday@gmail.com.
Once you have registered, please read this page carefully.
Registration will open on 1 April 2025.
Note: This year, we will open registration earlier for those of you who have already participated in at least one Sangha Holiday, to give as many alumni as possible the opportunity to attend.
Testimonial
Since completing my first six-month silent retreat nearly 25 years ago, I have been on an annual quest to find that elusive retreat setting that would allow me to expand my practice and challenge myself anew. Read more
Well… this year, I found a particularly exciting event in the hills of Languedoc in southern France. There, Denis and his friends have developed a truly radical innovation.
No schedule. No bells (just a delightful flute that coaxes you out of your tent at dawn). No work schedule or programme… just an optimistic confidence that everything that needs to be done will be done… And if it isn’t…? Then it’s an opportunity to explore together what it means to take responsibility for our lives (and perhaps more importantly, what it means to freely take on a commitment and responsibility to our practice).
At sunrise, everyone can be found scattered along the riverbank, each sitting in meditation in a spot they have spontaneously chosen for themselves among the trees; or a few alone under the tarpaulin that forms the roof of the meditation hall… Or, in my case, sitting on a rock by the river, watching for the first glimmer of a sparkling ripple that heralds the beginning of a new day.
After a delicious vegetarian lunch, the conversation becomes more animated – but without the frenetic chatter that can occur when the period of silence ends during a retreat – with the group splitting into pairs or larger groups to go for a walk, share a meal or jump into the river.
So what is so radical about it? I would say that here, many of us have experienced a particular depth in our practice that may have resulted from an inner discipline rather than conformity to an external diktat (however well-intentioned).
Perhaps for me, too, it is an indicator of how to “integrate practice into daily life” – simply by taking the plunge and doing it. Isn’t that rather radical?

It is so important in life to feel at peace, in harmony with it… That’s what happened to me during my stay at Sangha Holiday… Read more
What fulfilment! Yes, I am fortunate to have allowed myself this holiday. Thank you again to Denis and Lydia for offering this space for awareness and encounter. The beginning of something big for me. Aurélie

An opportunity to let nature guide the flow of life and naturally change what needs to be changed. And all this while being surrounded by people, experiencing life in sangha in its simple and beautiful form. An opportunity to be kind to myself, to others and to the environment in which we live. But above all, it was an opportunity to taste what it is like to feel a clear and calm mind.
Thank you for organising this event.
